The Magnificent Seven
Hand me a gun, some cowboy boots
and a seven man team of suicidal, adrenaline driven heroes. The Magnificent Seven idolizes the justice and
remedy that is just thrilling to see in a movie but not as much in reality. I
keep thinking: what made them all settle to fight a battle that had nothing to
do with them? I don’t believe it was the gold or fear of arrest or a horse and
It’s not as if they had a dagger to their throat or anything like that - So
selfless, so brave and for some of them, not so lucky.
Perhaps casually going in gun
blazing in an attempt to relinquish the world of evil kind of, sought of,
probably might be a bad idea giving that these are different times, and we have
automatic weapons now. If you fancy that line of work I would encourage that
you considered joining the army - there’s enough shooting to go around there –
or, I don’t know, open an orphanage or something. It would interest you to know
that there are different ways of fighting as there are different shades to
victory.
The movie stages the epic and
literally breathtaking display of heroism of a team of selfless American
cowboys, a Mexican, a Red Indian, and an Irish man - a rather facetious blend don’t you think? Do
you think they had black cow boys back then? Currently the world is still
flooded with narcissistic, ignorant racist folks and this is the 21st
century where combating racism has grown to become a public affair. My point is
– this is the time where something is actually being done about racism and
that’s why I find it peculiar that Denzel Washington, a black man and a
personal favorite, held a lead role in a movie set in a time where racism was
routine and not once was the fact that he was black mentioned throughout the
movie.
I am not one to complain but I
don’t know if it’s just me or did the character, Jack Horne, played by Vincent
D’onofrio, die prematurely. I mean common! He had someone right behind him,
with all two guns. Bad leg or not, I think he could have prevented the aching
demise of the teams very own mascot. I mean, my grandmother could have
prevented it and she has never held a gun.
Besides the fact that the role of
my favorite character came to an undeserving end, I think everything else was
pretty much spot on. The action, the drama and the adventure was just
invigorating and oh! The touch of comedy as you know, always does it for me.
I’m actually watching it right now, for the fourth time, in hopes that it would
get boring at some point, but “so far so good”. See ya!!!
