The Grand Budapest Hotel

I cannot promise that this is a movie for all, because it truly is not. However, I will promise that it is bound to educate certain minds on the importance of loyalty and sacrifice, teamwork and friendship, and the use of good grammar in the most elegant way possible. And of course, you will love the comedy.
My favorite line in the entire movie “there are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughter house that was once called humanity” mhmm… it sounds so good I can almost taste it. So good it was used nearly three times in the movie, but the first did it for me really.

The movie featured a host of comic characters in typical Wes Anderson style (the producer) in a fantasy country not unlike Eastern Europe In a fantasy time not unlike the 1930s. The Grand Budapest Hotel recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel, and Zero Mustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.

The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune. And no! Gustave was not a family man and neither was Zero. It turns out Gustave had a slightly weird sexual interest in the grey side – he was attracted to older women as they were attracted to him. As discomforting as this may seem at the beginning scenes of the movie, it rolled out to be very rewarding and enriching for Gustave and Zero.

Be careful to note the exquisite command of the English grammar (especially from Gustave), the matured touch of comedy, and the brilliant composure of the actors. It almost brings tears to my eyes seeing such a work. Again “there are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughter house that was once called humanity” yap, I definitely taste it. So, how does it end? Let me know when you find out.

This movie released in 2014, is as worthy of writing about as any 2016 movie. There are only a few movies in its class and I cannot say it’s acing it. I can say, however, that the production is as crafty and award worthy as the story line and it has been deemed so. I really fell in love with this movie and I hope you do too. See ya!!!
