Doctor Strange
Let’s talk time! What is it that makes time so ominous? And please stop looking at your wristwatch because the time I am talking about stretches beyond the mechanical brilliance of man and dares into a conceptual realm. We seek to understand time because we hope to control it. In our quest, at every level, we’ve established, repeatedly and continuously, what this movie has so elegantly pointed out – not only is time complex but it is also strange.
I would imagine that for movie lovers this should be old news - which would have made my task a little bit greener if not for everyone else. So, I’ll just go ahead to clarify a few things – yes, the doctor's name is actually “Strange” “Dr. Stephen Strange” it was no nick or anything of the sort. And if you observed, you may have noted the dreamlike but thrilling twist and turn and swerve of matter which includes buildings, bridges, ceilings and everything physical. It’s not real! Okay? It’s just the Marvel Studio playing with us and I find it offensive.
This is actually my first time writing on a movie of this kind if you’ve been following the blog, so I promise to go gently. The concept of the movie “Doctor Strange” is not new-fangled, it has its comic versions as well as animations, but this is a new step for the guy and a grand one if I might add.
I like the story line – exceptional doctor, who is a bit of a “bottom” about it, turns patient (talk about Karma) and from the sick bed found “inner peace” in the midst of people that one would consider completely cracked if judging a book by its cover. These Gurus could fold reality in itself, could detach what they call “Astro-body”, but we call spirit from their physical body, could teleport with only the aid of a ring (actually two rings by design), and a master who could manipulate time. One would imagine that whatever problem the doctor had pacing into that temple was not going to be a problem for long. Ironically, at the end of the movie, they managed to do everything but solve the one problem that compelled him there in the first place and by some miracle, they managed to fatten the list – if that doesn’t qualify as a dramatic twist for you then please, stop reading!
So, now that we are done with those party-weights, let’s proceed. Actually, I think that’s all I’ve got for you folks, well, almost… let’s talk about the part after the struggle (if it qualifies) between Dormamu and Strange ended and Dr. Strange made a comment – “you know you really should have stolen the whole book because the warnings: the warnings come after the spells” and Wong, the Chinese guy (well he looked Chinese) broke into laughter. It was funny because Dr. strange wasn’t even trying… you might not get it now, but just watch the movie will ya? And oh ya, there’s a short scene right after the end so you might want to stick around to see that - Doctor strange met with Thor and had something like a heart to heart and I think it’s going to form a huge topic in the next part. See ya!!!
