Mortdecai
I have always had this liking for
English movies, I find them deceptively charming and exceptionally clever. The
artistry is almost always perfect, the grammar is distinctively admirable, and
the storylines are simply classic. At the first look it’s like “I can’t believe
I’m wasting my time on this” especially If you’re the action movie type. The
English movie “Mortdecai” was as clever and as charming as clever and charming
can go, and I went the distance.
The movie recounts the adventures
of Lord Charlie Mortdecai and the dreadful scar of a mustache he paraded on his
face and his manservant Jock “dear, sweet, simple jock” as it were.
Now, it was no secret that lord
Mortdecai was an arts dealer and something of an artist in the field. He was a
business man, a broke business man. Being broke, for any man in business, puts
you out of business, as you will find in the beginning scenes of the movie. So,
he was in a tight spot alright. As he brainstorms on what steps to take to save
him from his seemingly inevitable plunge into bankruptcy, a proposal was laid
before him, one that turned out an opportunity and for the first time, I think,
he was to bring his unique skill set to his country’s aid but mostly for the
ten percent finder’s fee promised.
I saw a few negative reviews on
the movie online. One was particularly interesting, it was from Robbie Collin.
He said the movie was “psychotically unfunny” what that means is that one has
to be psychotically imbalanced to find it funny. But wait, I found it funny! Oh
well…
There’s really not much to talk
about as there is to experience watching this movie. The sweet blend of comedy
in any classic movie only makes it difficult to watch without the “Lol” expression
on your face and boy did I wear it! Maybe it’s just me talking, maybe it’s not
as interesting as I am making it out to be or maybe you’re wrong and missing
out on the experience. But hey, what is more deserving of the quote “seeing is
believing” than a movie. See ya!!!
